The 2024 BET Awards are being handed out Sunday night.
Tyla won the first award of the night, for best international act. Usher, who will be honored with a lifetime achievement award during the show, was named best male R&B/pop artist early in the show.
The BET Awards ceremony is expected to create some big moments, with performances by Will Smith, who will debut a brand-new song, and Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover), who confirmed last week that he’s dropping a new Single, titled “Lithonia.”
In addition, feuding artists Drake and Kendrick Lamar will compete in two categories: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is up for “Rich Baby Daddy” with SZA and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is competing for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
And Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, is nominated for the YoungStars Award, which honors child and teen entertainers.
Heading into the show, Drake lead the nominations with a total of seven nods, followed by Nicki Minaj with six, and SZA, J. Cole, Sexyy Red and Monét with five apiece. Nominees were selected by a voting academy of music industry insiders, performers and presenters. Viewers can vote on the Viewer’s Choice Award through 6:30 p.m. PT.
Taraji P. Henson is hosting the 2024 BET Awards, which are airing live on BET from the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
Megan Thee Stallion kicked off the show with an energetic performance backed by scores of dancers. She appeared out of a giant egg, reminiscent of the cover of her new album, Megan.
Other performers are scheduled to include GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Lauryn Hill, Megan Thee Stallion, Tanner Adell, Tyla, Victoria Monét, YG Marley, Sexyy Red, Muni Long, Shaboozey, Chlöe, Coco Jones, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosius and Summer Walker. Tanner Adell will perform on the BET Amplified stage.
The list of BET Awards nominees, below, will be updated as winners are announced live Sunday night. Refresh for the latest.
