Are you ready for another season of 9-1-1?

I like to imagine that question was met with a resounding ‘yes’ that could be heard from somewhere in outer space, where rumor has it Athena Grant will venture in no time at all.

I am not joking, people! 9-1-1 Season 9 promises to go where no other show has gone before (or at least this fall!)

We already know 9-1-1 is going to bring surprises and jaw-dropping special effects when it returns in a short time, as recent season premieres have told us that they’ve fully leaned into the ‘Go big or go home’ mantra.

But before you get to where you’re going, you have to remember where you came from, or however the saying goes.

So, it’s time to take a trip down memory lane and remind you where things left off with 9-1-1 Season 8.

You won’t even need that little ‘Previously on 9-1-1…’ voiceover after you’re done with this list! (Not that you were going to get it anyway!)

Here’s the most important things you missed, or forgot, on 9-1-1!

Bobby Nash Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

(Disney/Christopher Willard)

I highly doubt anyone forgot about Bobby Nash’s shocking death on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15, but it was the most impactful moment of the season, and the series overall.

Bobby had a whirlwind season when you think back on it.

From helping Athena land a plane on the LA freeway, to a reunion with his estranged mother and brother that had him confronting long-hidden feelings from a childhood that had a profound impact on his life.

He and Athena were knee deep in building their dream home when tragedy struck, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone.

The final hours of the season included Bobby’s funeral, as well as the characters confronting the realities of a life without Bobby Nash, a husband, father figure, captain, and friend.

Athena Landed a Plane, Fought Crime, and Lost It All

(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

Athena started 9-1-1 Season 8 by landing a plane, because, of course, she did. But lost amongst all the chaos was her once again grappling with one of the greatest tragedies of her life; the murder of her fiancé, Emmett Washington.

In transporting Dennis Jenkins and undergoing several life-or-death moments alongside the man, she was able to let go of a lot of resentments in the end. Still, in typical 9-1-1 fashion, she almost died while doing so.

Of course, nothing was as devastating for Athena as the death of her husband, and by season’s end, she decided to give up the house she and Bobby were building together.

So, she’s technically without a home currently, but with the recent news that May and Harry will be back full-time for 9-1-1 Season 9, we’ll likely see the family back together again.

But I can safely say, no one wanted it to happen like this.

Eddie Moved to Texas… And Then He Moved Back

(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

After Christopher moved to Texas with his grandparents during 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 10, Eddie went through a rough time.

He grew a mustache, and he denied himself joy until he realized that he could no longer stay in Los Angeles, away from his son, and moved to Texas basically overnight!

The move came about suddenly in the land of 9-1-1, and was a tough blow for Buck, specifically. However, once Eddie arrived in Texas, nothing really went in his favor outside of repairing his relationship with Christopher, which developed very quickly.

Eddie only returned to Los Angeles for Bobby’s funeral and then decided to stay, jumping in to help his former team during an all-hands-on-deck emergency in 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 18.

The season really dropped the ball on a lot of Eddie’s storyline and really dug into the events that led to Christopher’s departure, but even without a lot of the exploration fans were hoping for, Eddie still had a hell of a season that ended with him and his heart right where they belong: in Los Angeles.

Families Expanded

(Disney/Christopher Willard)

Yes, the highlight of Maddie and Chimney’s journey last season was in the finale when they welcomed their son, Robert Han.

But throughout the season, the pair went through a lot together, with nothing more harrowing than Maddie’s kidnapping at the end of 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 9.

Maddie was lucky to escape the clutches of Amber Braeburn alive. While Chimney’s fierce determination to find her was inspiring, it also encapsulated their love story and the way they never give up on one another. How many times must this couple suffer?

There is never one season where these two aren’t put through the wringer, and that was especially true during 9-1-1 Season 8.

But in the end, the pair emerged stronger, their family grew larger, and they are heading into the new season as happy as they can be, surrounded by the love of their people.

The same could be said for Hen and Karen, who end the season together with their babies, but also went through some hard times.

(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

Denny had a brush with death during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 5 in one of the more distressing moments of the season, and also had to go to court to fight to bring Mara home.

Hen and Karen have long wanted to expand their family, and when they fostered Mara, they knew they wanted her to become a permanent piece of the Wilson household.

It wasn’t an easy road; in fact, it felt needlessly hard for the sake of it,  but the two were able to adopt her at the end of the season, finally, and, much like their best friends, the Hans, they head into the new season feeling complete within the confines of their family.

Buck Baked & Struggled

Buck strikes a pose in the kitchen during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 6.
(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

It was a rough season for Buck.

Early in the season, Tommy broke up with him unexpectedly; then Eddie moved away, and finally Bobby passed away. It was literally blow after blow for him, and he struggled in all the ways you’d think someone would after such losses.

Eddie’s departure was a turning point for Buck, forcing him to examine himself and the ways he was behaving in the face of such intense and sudden change. His decision to step in and sublet Eddie’s home in his absence showed a great deal of maturity and also the depth of their friendship.

Bobby’s death led Buck to retreat and struggle in many raw and emotional ways, culminating in an intense confrontation between him and Eddie.

But it also served as a starting point for him to begin picking up the pieces around him.

(Disney/Christopher Willard)

Much like everyone, by season’s end, he found himself in a place of looking to an uncertain future, but doing so with a renewed sense of self.

What will the new season bring to him? What will it bring to everyone?

It’s not too much longer until we find out!

But while you wait, be sure to check out some of the other fall shows that have returned already, along with our reviews and recaps!
