In the City

The camera never rests on some reality TV stars. The latest spinoff of the Summer House franchise follows cast members as they return to their daily lives in New York City in the fall after spending their summer in the Hamptons. Following the Season 10 finale of Summer House (8/7c), the City spinoff picks up where the original series leaves off, with a particular focus on the dissolution of the marriage between Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula, whose post-separation romance with West Wilson figures into their storyline.

Wanda Sykes: Legacy

The outspoken Wanda Sykes isn’t shy about schooling her many comic targets. In her third stand-up special for Netflix, she returns to school: her alma mater of Hampton University, which welcomes her back with a marching band and a rousing ovation from the student body. “Once I got to campus, the school went nuts,” she says. “It was a great weekend. It turned out to be everything that I wanted it to be.” As a pioneering Black female comedian, Sykes has a legacy to be proud of. This topical set of no-holds-barred barbs reminds us why.

The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch

Ranch owner Brandon Fugal and his team of scientists and paranormal researchers have spent years exploring the mysteries of the 512-acre Utah property, said to be a “hotspot for high strangeness” of possibly extraterrestrial origin. The investigation continues into a seventh season, which opens with the team testing ceramic materials extracted from the mesa, firing extreme heat above the Triangle, and triggering phenomena in the sky that will surely fuel new questions if not any concrete answers.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Without Jon Stewart, we might not have had Stephen Colbert as a force in late-night TV. Colbert’s former The Daily Show colleague, and one-time lead-in to his iconic The Colbert Report, shows up to support his friend in his final week on CBS. Colbert also plays host to a Hollywood legend, director Steven Spielberg, and performs with David Byrne. He may not be able to top last week’s rooftop stunt with David Letterman, but he’s not slowing down.
