Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Rape

Mystikal has received a 20-year prison sentence for raping a woman at his Louisiana home in 2022, Associated Press reports. The rapper had pled guilty to third-degree rape in March as part of a plea deal, which protected him from the state’s automatic life sentence for first-degree rape. He has been behind bars without bond since 2022, when he was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree rape, criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse, simple robbery, and drug possession.

The woman who survived the rape described in a jury trial how Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, had punched, choked, and forcibly raped her at his home near Baton Rouge, according to local TV station WBRZ. She asked the judge to deliver the maximum sentence, which would have been 25 years.

In 2004, Mystikal began a six-year prison sentence for sexual assault and extortion; he served another three months, for misdemeanour domestic abuse, in 2012. He was also indicted on rape and kidnapping charges in 2017, but the charges were eventually dropped.
