SZA Climbed The Grammys Stage On Crutches, With Help From Lady Gaga

LifeStyle

After SZA and Doja Cat took home the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song “Kiss Me More,” the former climbed the stage in a floral Jean Paul Gaultier gown, which she accessorized with a pair of crutches. It’s not yet clear what accident prompted the use of such tools, but never fret—SZA had a guardian angel looking after her as she ascended to the microphone. (The Grammys don’t need their own Jennifer Lawrence moment! And we’ve had enough near-injuries on TV to last us months. ) As if by magic, Lady Gaga bibbity-bobbity-booed herself into SZA’s wobbling space, bundling up the train of the winner’s gown so she wouldn’t trip.

Moments later, Doja Cat rushed up to join her co-awardee, apologizing for having just returned from the bathroom. “I have never taken a fastest piss in my life,” the artist told the crowd, before shortly breaking down into tears. “But this is, uh…it’s a big deal,” she added.

SZA hasn’t publicly explained the reason for her crutches usage, but not all fans were convinced of the singer’s injury, given the size of the heels she paired with her red carpet look. (The second most-popular conspiracy theory seems to be that the “I Hate U” artist preferred to sit and watch during the ceremony, rather than perform. Can you really blame her?)

In the inevitable fourth live-action Cinderella to come, we’re casting Gaga as the Fairy Godmother.
