Nick Zinner, guitarist for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is releasing his large-scale instrumental suite 41 Strings digitally and on vinyl for the first time. The piece’s four movements follow those of the seasons. It arrives on July 1 via Chaikin Records, an imprint run by Zinner’s Yeah Yeah Yeahs bandmate Brian Chase. Zinner premiered 41 Strings in New York in 2011, a commission for the 41st anniversary of Earth Day. He’s performed the piece publicly just three times since then. The album version was record in May 2011 at Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey. Performers on the 41 Strings album include guitarists Aku Orraca-Tetteh, David Pajo, Siebren Versteeg, Nick Zinner, and Joshua Zucker, as well as bassist Andy Macleod, drummer Brian Chase, and others.

In the years since he first shared 41 Strings, Zinner has collaborated on new material with Damon Albarn for the collective Africa Express. He also played guitar on a duet cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” by Karen O and Willie Nelson. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are planning to debut new music during a string of shows in England at the beginning of June.
