A few days earlier, they were spotted leaving a BAFTA’s afterparty together. A source told The Sun that they have been “quietly getting to know each other for months.”
“They have been enjoying spending time together,” the source continued. “Dua knows how important it is to find someone who understands her industry. She feels Romain totally gets it. They’re both really creative people.”
And then in May 2023, they went red carpet official at the Cannes Film Festival, making their relationship public.

Forty-two-year-old Gravas was born in Paris and the Onassis Foundation states that he’s the son of Greek-French film director Costa Gavras, so directing runs in the family. His most recent big work was Netflix’s Athena in 2022, but he is also known for directing several popular music videos, including the video for M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls,” winner of a 2012 MTV Video Music Award. In 2017, he was nominated Best Music Video for Jamie XX’s “Gosh (Version 2)” at the award show again. He was additionally nominated for a Grammy Award in 2013, for directing Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean’s “No Church in the Wild.”
Gavras has headed a number of ad campaigns, too, including Louis Vuitton’s “Coeur Battant,” Dior’s “J’adore: The New Absolu,” and Powerade’s “The Corner,” per his IMDb page.

Gavras dated singer British Ora for six months in March 2021, but the Daily Mail reported they split due to “work commitments.”
“Rita and Romain split up months ago because of difficulties with their respective work commitments,” a spokesperson said. “They remain close friends.”

On Friday, July 21, the pop star and Gavras were seen out in London on the same night her film Barbie debuted, and they appeared to be having a blast. Dua Lipa was photographed laughing as she got into the back of her car with her boyfriend.
She was wearing a white blouse and a pair of straight-legged jeans with black shoes, black leather belt, and a matching handbag. Gavras was in a white t-shirt, hiding his face from cameras with his jacket. The couple were heading to the Chiltern Firehouse for their night out.
