The first Monday of May brings the burning question: What will Rihanna, the co-hosts and other stars wear to fashion’s biggest night?

The Met Gala takes place May 6 to celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art — and Hollywood stylists will be tasked with interpreting the dress code, “The Garden of Time,” inspired by the 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard.

Though Vogue will be livestreaming from the star-studded fundraiser, those who want to catch more high-fashion action can watch E!’s Met Gala complete coverage with interviews and commentary. Live from E!: Met Gala will feature celebrity interviews by Ross Mathews, who will be stationed at the museum’s steps.

Met Gala 2024: Who Are the Co-Chairs?

In addition to Wintour, the 2024 Met Gala co-chairs are Bad Bunny, Zendaya, first-time attendee Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lopez, and the honorary chairs are Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew. This year’s sponsors are Condé Nast, Loewe and TikTok, but it’s unclear whether Chew will show up given that the social media company could be banned in the U.S.

Met Gala 2024: What Is the Theme and Dress Code?

The 2024 Met Gala dress code is “the Garden of Time,” honoring the theme that coincides with the Costume Institute’s new exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, on display at the museum from May 10 to Sept. 2.

Dreamed up by Costume Institute chief curator Andrew Bolton, the exhibition will showcase nearly 250 pieces from across four centuries “visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion and a vehicle to examine the cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal,” according to the Met. “The exhibition will breathe new life into these storied objects through creative and immersive activations designed to convey the smells, sounds, textures, and motions of garments that can no longer directly interact with the body.”

Met Gala 2024: Who Is Attending?

In addition to hosts Anna Wintour, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny, expect stars across Hollywood, music, art and beyond to walk the red carpet. Rihanna has confirmed her attendance at the 2024 Met Gala, noting that she’s “keeping it real simple” this year. Stay tuned for more on who is attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s stylish soirée.
