Abigail Breslin appears to have criticised Katy Perry for working with Dr Luke while pledging her support for Kesha in a new social media post.
It comes after Kesha recently gave her verdict on the news that Perry had worked with Dr Luke – who she accused of emotional abuse and sexual assault in a decade-long lawsuit – on her new music.
Perry recently announced her return to music with news that the single ‘Woman’s World’ will drop today (July 11). Fans noticed that Dr Luke was listed as a co-producer and Rolling Stone confirmed that he was indeed involved in creating the song, citing a source at Capitol Records.
Perry has frequently collaborated with the producer on some of her biggest hits, including ‘I Kissed A Girl’, ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Dark Horse’, but the news proved controversial following his and Kesha’s long-running legal battle.
After Kesha sued him, the producer denied the allegations and countersued the artist, claiming she had breached the recording contract they had with one another and made up rape allegations in an attempt to get out of the deal.
Perry did get brought into proceedings when Kesha alleged that Perry was also a victim of abuse at the hands of Dr Luke. Perry strongly denied this and a judge later ruled that Kesha had defamed Dr Luke by suggesting as much.
In 2018, Perry said that she “felt pressured” to support Kesha. She also revealed that she felt like “Luke was using me as a pawn” to assert his innocence, and that she was “annoyed” with both parties. Dr Luke was not involved in making her 2017 album ‘Witness’, which she added was because she didn’t want to feel like she was “picking a side”.
I’m just saying… working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it. On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows ive ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!

Now, in a new post on social media, Breslin, who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Little Miss Sunshine, appears to have referenced Perry working with Dr Luke – although she doesn’t name either. In the same post, she also pledges her support for Kesha.
Writing on X/Twitter, Breslin said: “I’m just saying… this just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it.”
She added: “On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows I’ve ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!”
Kesha and Dr Luke’s legal battle came to an end last summer with the pair settling just one month before it was supposed to go to trial. Kesha has maintained her original claims against Dr. Luke.
Kesha played her first show since she had finally departed Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe label earlier this month.
The ‘California Gurls’ singer took to her official social media accounts to share the title of the album earlier this week as well as the cover art, which sees her floating in the middle of a pink and blue whirlwind. ‘143’ is set for release on September 20 and is available for pre-sale / pre-order here.
The reveal of the album title and release date came one day ahead of the premiere of Perry’s comeback single ‘Woman’s World’. The track will mark a brand new era for the singer and is set for release today (July 11) at 12am BST, 7pm ET and 4pm PST.
Perry previously shared a snippet of the track on her TikTok. “Sexy, confident / So intelligent / She is heaven sent / So soft / So strong,” she sings over a bouncy pop beat. ‘Woman’s World’ will serve as the lead single of ‘143’.
Now, she’s shared several more snippets of new songs including ‘I’m His, He’s Mine’, ‘Gimme Gimme’ with 21 Savage and another new song, ‘Nirvana’. Listen to them here.
