Sarah Michelle Gellar has revealed that she once asked for a day off work so she could attend Taylor Swift‘s ‘Eras’ tour.

The actress is currently promoting the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin alongside her co-star Christian Slater.

During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, she revealed that she’d been to Miami in October to see one of Swift’s final ‘Eras’ shows, and called the performance “incredible”.

She then added that in order to get the opportunity to go, she’d continuously asked for time off from filming. “He knew it was the only thing I cared about at work,” she said, referring to Slater. “I’m like, I just need to get a Friday off.” She told Barrymore that the show had wondered if she needed the day off to take care of her children.

“Well, I’m going to Miami to see the Eras Tour,” she recalled explaining. “I saw it in L.A., but she didn’t do ‘Tortured Poets Department‘. So, I wanted to go see ‘Tortured Poets’, and I got to see Florence Welch.”

Welch joined Swift on stage for a duet of their collaborative track ‘Florida!!!’, with the Florence + The Machine musician joining her during the second verse of the ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ track.

Prior to that, Gellar had gone to see Swift in August 2023, before the release of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. At the time, she shared a post on Instagram, writing: “Officially in my Eras Era,” and showing off her friendship bracelets for the tour.

Swift performed the very last scheduled show of the mammoth tour in Vancouver, Canada on December 8, and shortly afterwards it was revealed that the tour was the highest-grossing of 2024 – beating off competition from ColdplayBruce SpringsteenThe Rolling StonesMadonna and more.

The tour ran for a combined total of 21 months across 149 shows, and broke the record for the highest-grossing tour of all time, bringing in a reported $2.2billion (£1.73b) in total.

Last December, at the tour’s midpoint, it became the first to gross $1billion (£796million). Prior to that, it was estimated that, once it had concluded, the tour would be the most lucrative in music history. In total, 10,168,008 people across the world attended the ‘Eras’ shows.

Elsewhere, it was revealed that a book about the ‘Eras’ tour sold more than 800,000 copies in its first weekend of release.

It’s been a record-breaking year for Swift, with her latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ becoming the biggest of the year in the US, earning 4.66million equivalent album units in the first half of this year. It also became the first album by a woman to spend its first 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

As for Gellar, Dexter: Original Sin takes place 15 years before the events of the original series. Patrick Gibson portrays the younger version of Dexter Morgan while Michael C. Hall lends his voice to the character’s inner monologue.

The show will run for 10 episodes and is now available to stream on Paramount+.
