A star-studded panel of industry leaders, including MMA icon Bear Fiorda, internationally renowned media strategist Lady Summer Helene, the Baroness Morris of Ayrshire and Glenlyon, and celebrated makeup artist and Arizona Film Commission member Victoria Sandoval, visited Glendale Community College’s (GCC) Film & Multimedia Program for an unforgettable event aimed at inspiring and empowering the next generation of filmmakers.

Organized by the GCC Film & Media Club, “CINEMA SOCIETY GCCaz,” the event was a unique blend of practical advice, real-world industry insights, and career-shaping opportunities for GCC students. As Arizona rapidly rises as a hub for film and television production, the speakers were eager to share their expertise while offering tangible opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in the entertainment world.

“We’re not just here to talk; we’re here to make an impact,” said Lady Summer Helene, the Baroness. “Arizona is quickly becoming a powerhouse in the entertainment industry, and we want these students to be a part of it. That means offering them internships, giving them access to real-world production sets, and guiding them as they transition from students to professionals.”

The event offered more than just guidance; it opened doors. Victoria Sandoval, who works closely with the Arizona Film Commission, shared details of the prestigious Production Assistant (PA) program, which offers students unparalleled access to film sets across the state. Both Lady Summer Helene and Bear Fiorda extended their own opportunities, with Summer offering internships to help students gain hands-on experience in the industry, and Bear discussing ways to integrate aspiring filmmakers into his own philanthropic endeavors and future projects.

“Seeing this kind of energy and passion from the students is incredible,” said Victoria Sandoval. “We have the resources, the connections, and the opportunities here in Arizona, and we want to make sure these students are equipped to take advantage of them. This is just the beginning.”

The GCC students, many of whom are already working on short films, podcasts, and even a documentary aimed at film festivals in 2025, were eager for advice on how to take their work to the next level. The panelists provided valuable insights on everything from securing paid gigs to the nuances of balancing nonprofit and for-profit projects. They also offered advice on navigating the challenges of the industry while maintaining a focus on creative vision and integrity.

“The future of film is happening right here in Arizona,” said Bear Fiorda. “I’m excited to be part of it, and I’m thrilled to offer these students the kind of opportunities that will help them grow and succeed.”

This event marked the first of many planned visits to GCC, with all three speakers committed to returning to continue providing mentorship and guidance. They also discussed plans for collaboration at Phoenix Fan Fusion this summer, offering even more chances for students to network and learn from industry professionals.

The event was generously sponsored by Embassy Suites by Hilton Downtown Phoenix North.
