Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney tapped into fall’s warm tones for her appearance with George Clooney this weekend at Washington, D.C.’s HISTORYTalks 2022 event. Amal opted to wear a stunning red lace column gown. She had her dark hair styled down in soft waves and paired the dress with a matching statement red lip.

George gushed about Amal on the red carpet, telling Entertainment Tonight that eight years into marriage, he couldn’t name one bad thing about his wife. Eight years! And they said it wouldn’t last,” George said with a laugh. “Everything about my wife is sort of magical, as I think everybody has come to realize as they see her and hear her and hear what she stands for. There’s just not a downside to her.”

Amal shared a little about her marriage to George in her Time magazine interview, which ran in March this year. Marriage has been wonderful,” she said. “I have in my husband a partner who is incredibly inspirational and supportive, and we have a home filled with love and laughter. It is a joy beyond anything I could ever have imagined. I feel so lucky to have found a great love in my life, and to be a mother—this is how I get my balance.”

She also addressed the spotlight that comes with being an A-list celebrity’s wife, along with some of the sexist media coverage of her: “In terms of an increased public profile, I think all I can do is try to turn the spotlight to what is important,” she said. “That can definitely benefit some clients. If I am at a work function and reporting of it focuses on irrelevant issues, there’s not much I can do about that. Since I can’t control it, my approach is just not to dwell on it and just get on with my work and my life and hope that attitudes will catch up. And I do actually feel like there is a female solidarity that has built up on these issues where other women will sort of call that out in a way that maybe wouldn’t have happened five or 10 years ago. So attitudes are changing.”
