The Boys‘ fifth and final season is beginning to take shape at Prime Video as Eric Kripke‘s twisted superhero series prepares to bid viewers farewell.

But fret not, because there are plenty of exciting milestones to come as we look ahead to the show and franchise’s future at the streamer. Below, we’re breaking down everything we know about The Boys Season 5 so far ranging from casting news to premiere dates, and more.

Who Is New to The Boys Season 5?

The show’s official social media account announced that Daveed Diggs, best known for his roles in Hamilton and Snowpiercer will step into a mystery role yet-to-be-revealed. “New S5 crumbs… let’s all welcome Daveed Diggs to The Boys family, shall we? He’ll be playing a character in the show. That’s all ya get for now,” the post teased. He’s the first new cast member announced for the show’s final season, but there are plenty of favorites sure to return.

Who Is Returning for The Boys Season 5?

While no official confirmations have been made, it’s expected that Antony Starr, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will return to reprise their respective roles. It was revealed during The Boys panel at San Diego Comic-Con that Jensen Ackles would also be back as Soldier Boy who is slated to feature in his own prequel spinoff Vought Rising alongside former Boys star Aya Cash as Stormfront. Ackles will appear in a series regular capacity, and his return was teased in Season 4’s final moments when Homelander (Starr) uncovered his body which was under a forced sleep.

What Is The Boys Season 5 About?

No loglines or synopsis has been unveiled for The Boys’ fifth and final season, but as viewers will recall, Season 4 ended with a cliffhanger that is surely setting the stage for a final showdown between Billy Butcher (Urban) and Homelander. As cancer grows in Butcher’s body, his powers accrued by Compound-V and Temp-V abuse have turned him into a Supe killer, which was revealed in Season 4’s final minutes when he shredded Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) in half, leaving his fellow vigilantes to fend for themselves. Meanwhile, Homelander infiltrated the government as he and all Supes were granted deputizing powers. The titular vigilante group experienced this first-hand as many of them were apprehended by Supes as they attempted to go their separate ways. Starlight (Moriarty) was the only one to escape along with Butcher who drove solo while his imaginary companion, Joe Kessler (Morgan), a manifestation of a former friend, occupied the back seat.

Where this will lead viewers will remain to be seen, but as Homelander acquires more power, danger is surely lurking.

Why Is The Boys Season 5 the Show’s Last?

In a message to fans timed to Season 4’s premiere, series showrunner Eric Kripke wrote, “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

In other words, Season 5 was always going to be the show’s last chapter, but as viewers know already, there are plenty of other spinoffs and characters to carry on in the world first introduced in this series by Kripke and executive producers like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

When Will The Boys Season 5 Premiere?

No premiere date has been announced quite yet, but considering the time it takes to put a season together, we’re not expecting the show’s return until 2026 possibly. But stay tuned for any updates or official announcements as they’re made.
