The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2021, scheduled for April 9-11 and 16-18, has been canceled by the public health officer in Riverside County, California. Dr. Cameron Kaiser tweeted a link to the order, which cites California and Riverside County health and safety codes, canceling the festival on the scheduled dates “based on the fall resurgence of COVID-19 both within the County of Riverside and worldwide” and the best practices to protect the public from the disease’s proliferation. Months ago, Rolling Stone reported that this year’s Coachella would be moved to October. Potential new dates of the festival remain unclear.

In March, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2020 was postponed from its original dates in April to October 2020 due to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19). It was then canceled outright for the first time in 20 years in June, with new dates set for April 2021 with “new lineups.” Now the festival has been postponed once again, to October 2021, according to Rolling Stone

Coachella has taken place every year since 2001. This year’s festival was set to be headlined by Frank Ocean, Rage Against the Machine, and Travis Scott. In late May, it was reported by Bloomberg that festival organizers had begun to reach out to acts that were scheduled to perform at the fall iteration of the 2020 festival in order to ask them to play in 2021 instead.
