Jennifer Lopez on Why She Responded to That Botox Instagram Comment: ‘It Had to Be Set Straight’

LifeStyle

Jennifer Lopez made headlines earlier this month when she responded to an Instagram user who claimed that Lopez, 51, has gotten “tons” of Botox and adamantly denied having any filler. In a new interview, she explained to People why she felt the need to address that user so publicly.

For context, the user wrote, “You definitely have Botox. And tons of it. And it’s all good. Just saying.”

Lopez responded, “LOL that’s just my face!!! for the 500 millionth time…I have never done Botox or any injectables or surgery!! Just saying. Get you some JLO Beauty and feel beautiful in your own skin!! And here is another JLO Beauty secret: try spending your time being more positive, kind and uplifting of others,” she continued. “Don’t spend your time trying to bring others down that will keep you youthful and beautiful too!!! Sending you love. #beautyfromtheinsideout #beautyhasnoexpirationdate.”

Lopez told People that since she is selling skincare products in her JLo Beauty line, she wants to be transparent that it is all she uses. She has nothing against Botox either, she said.

“I don’t judge anybody,” Lopez started. “If you want to do Botox and injectables, that’s fine! But I don’t want people lying on me and saying, ‘Oh, she’s trying to make believe that this stuff works.’ No, I’m telling you what I do that works! Please don’t call me a liar. I don’t have to lie about things. I’ve been pretty honest about my whole life.”

“If I had, I would say, ‘Yeah, you’re right,’ but I don’t want people going, ‘Stop lying, you’re doing this, you’re doing that,’ when that’s just not true,” Lopez added. “I just felt it had to be set straight, but in a loving way. And one of my big beauty secrets is that I try to be kind to others and lift up other women. I think that that is important for us to do for each other instead of trying to tear people down.”

Lopez spoke to ELLE back in December about not having filler at this point. She was first offered Botox when she was 23, she said: “I went to this other doctor with the boyfriend, and again, I was 20-something years old, and I haven’t ever had Botox to this day. And she said, ‘Did you know you have a little line right here? We should start Botox.” I mean, I had to be 23 years old, right? And I was like, ‘I’m going to pass.’ I didn’t like needles anyway, but the boyfriend’s like, “Yeah, you should start it. I do that.” I was like, no, thank you. And I just wonder what would’ve happened to me if I would’ve started Botox at 23, what I would look like right now. My face would be a totally different face today.”

“One of the big things I would encourage everybody to do from the time they’re 15 years old, even younger, is wear sunscreen every day,” she continued. “We developed a sunscreen you can wear every single day as your day moisturizer, and that is going to protect you more than anything. That’s a big skincare secret that people kind of do but don’t do. They use moisturizers, but they don’t put on sunscreen every day. That is something I have done from that time I was 22 years old.”
