On Wednesday, Jeremy Renner marked the second anniversary of a snowplow accident that led to his hospitalization.
Renner took to Instagram to thank the medical staff who saved his life after the Mayor of Kingstown actor was accidentally run over by a 14,300-pound snowcat at his home in Reno, Nevada on Jan. 1, 2023.
“Happy New Year blessings to you all….” Renner captioned a photo of himself in the hospital. “Ringing in my second ‘ReBirthday’ today. I send out my love, respect and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again.”
Renner went on to thank “each and every nurse, doctor, first responder,” who cared for him during his two-week hospitalization.
“I literally owe you my life,” Renner wrote. “All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy asphalt New Years morning. I’m so sorry all the haunting images I imprinted on you all (I’ll spare you all from the meat grinding images ).”
Two years ago, Renner was airlifted from his home and hospitalized in critical condition after he was crushed by a snowplow while attempting to move snow from his driveway following a holiday celebration with his family. An accident report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter showed that Renner was trying to help his nephew when the accident occurred.
“My gratitude list is very long,” the actor added. “With the amount of love and prayers that flooded in from you all around the world (needing each and everyone of them), my family never leaving my side, with some divine intervention, a bit of luck and a whole lot of miracles … I stand strong again.”
Renner broke 30 bones during the accident and had to learn to walk again. The actor said in June of last year that he was “terrified” to return to acting after the near-fatal accident and he did not “have the energy” for challenging acting roles.
“I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all this stuff,” he told hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes on their Smartless podcast. “I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can, you know, have a positive thought, so I can progress, so I can always keep growing.”
Renner returned to the set of Mayor of Kingstown in January 2024. The Paramount+ drama series was renewed for a fourth season in December.
