Olivia Benson is back, and not a moment too soon. Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers promise a brutal case, but as always, she’s fighting hard for justice.
SVU’s showrunner has promised the new season will go “back to basics,” and this shocking case might be exactly what they mean.
Benson will have a full team, too, including a new detective who hopefully will stay a while. This new and improved roster of detectives is another way the series is trying to rebuild what it had in its early days.
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 Spoilers Suggest The Show Won’t Repeat Season 25’s Mistakes
Will It Completely Close The Door On The Maddie Flynn Saga?
For many fans, the ending of Law & Order: SVU Season 25 ruined too many things.
Throughout the shortened season, Olivia Benson seemed obsessed with Maddie Flynn’s disappearance, and her obsession didn’t stop when the girl was finally found.
Instead, she befriended the family and even lent the necklace Stabler had given her to Maddie’s mother. For Stabler/Benson shippers, that was the last straw.
While Mariska Hargitay has suggested there could still be some Benson/Stabler action, Law & Order Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers don’t mention the two crossing paths.
However, they also don’t include Maddie Flynn and her parents, so hopefully Eileen will return the necklace and that’ll be the end of Benson’s involvement in their lives.
If she continues the friendship, it must be off-screen, and this non-Flynn-related case is a good start.
The First Case Is As Challenging As It Is Brutal
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 Spoilers Point To A Group Attack
The season premiere will focus on a group of law students who are brutally attacked.
This case is likely to be disturbing, but that was par for the course in earlier SVU seasons, and we’re here for it.
While the last few seasons of the long-running police procedural have been distracted with personal stories, the pilot episode in 1999 involved a cabbie whose genitals had been removed.
The early seasons were full of these types of stories, which upset viewers and sparked discussions about why these things happen and what can be done about them.
More of this, please, and less nonsense surrounding Benson’s love life.
SVU has always had subplots surrounding the detectives’ home lives, but except for Rollins’ last guest appearance, they haven’t been interesting, so cutting back on them is good news.
Law & Order: Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers also suggest that this case will be tough to prosecute.
The cops will have a hard time finding the evidence they need to proceed, and spoilers suggest Benson is pinning her hopes on a hidden camera at the crime scene.
That could be problematic, with the defense team having a field day filing motions to suppress because their clients’ privacy was invaded or that hidden cameras constitute an illegal search.
If that’s the whole case, Carisi could back off until they find more evidence.
This would lead to what could easily be a tired TV trope about the cops resenting his refusal to seek justice while he doesn’t think he can get a conviction.
Benson Will Finally Have a Full Team Helping Her
How Will The Newest Detective Deal With Setbacks?
Law & Order Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers don’t mention much about the newest detective to join SVU’s Season 26 cast (Juliana Aidén Martinez), but she’s sure to clash with Carisi over the lack of evidence.
A newbie wouldn’t know Carisi like the other detectives do.
He used to be part of the SVU team before switching to the prosecution side, and he gets frustrated when he can’t move forward because he knows the stakes.
Martinez’s character may be tough and unafraid to stand up to authority, in which case she’ll go after Carisi hard, and Benson will have to tell her to dial back the passion a little bit.
Either way, the new team is another way that SVU is returning to what made the series so strong in earlier seasons. Benson will no longer have to rely solely on Fin and random detectives on loan from other agencies.
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 Spoilers Don’t Mention Rollins, But She’ll Be Back
Carisi May Mention Her New Job To Prep The Audience
Rollins isn’t back yet, but that will be coming soon.
The beloved former cast member will be in future episodes where she has a new job that could lead to a One Chicago crossover.
For now, we’ll have to settle for whatever information Carisi mentions about her if he does.
Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers don’t confirm that he will, but since he’s central to this story, he might have the opportunity to drop a hint.
He could mention being extra stressed because he’s taking care of the kids by himself while Rollins is traveling for her new job or say that she’s settling in over at Intelligence and seems to be happy.
Rollins’ first visit will occur toward the end of October, so it’s not too far off. In the meantime, Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 1 spoilers suggest an exciting story to kick off the season.
