On Saturday night, Selena Gomez attended the Variety’s 2022 Hitmakers Brunch at City Market Social House, where she accepted the award for Film Song of the Year for her new Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind & Me.

The musical artist and actress was wearing a chic but simple little black dress by Totême. The sleeveless gown was made of soft velvet, and was cut along her natural curves. The hem ended just above her ankles, revealing the black vinyl slides she wore on her feet.

For a pop of color, Gomez had a rainbow manicure, and gold and black bracelets. Fore her makeup look, she had a smokey eye and light pink lip.

The documentary addresses some very personal aspects of Gomez’s life, including her struggles with her lupus diagnosis and her mental health after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her mother Mandy Teefey recently talked about how hard it was to relive her daughter’s most difficult years on Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose. She has said she doesn’t even want to watch it.

“It’s going to hurt my stomach and put me in that mindset. I’m going to wish I could go and protect her,” she explained.

She added, “We went through that and found healing. We’ve moved past some of it, and even if it’s something she went through, and I didn’t know she went through it—as a mother, it’s going to affect me.”

“You want to take away your kids’ pain,” Teefy continued. “You don’t want them to have to experience that, even though that is part of developing who they are going to be, who we all are—our pain, suffering and our growth.”

She admitted that she will watch the doc eventually, when she is in the mood to “stay in bed and cry.”
