In a move that continues to beef up its editorial arm, Skybound has hired comic book industry veteran Nachie Marsham as senior editor.

In that role, Marsham will manage Skybound’s partnership with Lego Books, as well as develop a new slate of original comics.

Marsham’s hiring positions the multimedia company to grow its editorial output and shores up its commitment to its comics line, even as it continues to grow its other media divisions. The company is known for the Walking Dead and Invincible comics and TV series.

“Nachie Marsham adds an incredible amount of experience and passion to Skybound, and he’s already working to grow our original and licensed comic programs in new directions,” said Sean Mackiewicz, SVP, publisher, in a statement. “Our editorial team is the best in the business, and we remain committed to delivering the most exciting, emotionally charged comics in the marketplace, week after week.”

Prior to joining Skybound, he served as publisher of IDW Publishing, where he oversaw the launch of The Last Ronin, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title that became one of the biggest and acclaimed hits for the company. Prior to that, he was executive editor at Disney Publishing Worldwide, where he led the Marvel Press imprint, and worked in various editorial roles at DC Comics.

That experience will dovetail nicely with some of Skybound’s recent work. The company has found massive success with licensed comics, especially in its partnership with Hasbro. Skybound launched the Energon Universe line, which earned the company two Eisner Awards for Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers, and is in the midst of a widescale relaunch and transformation of G.I. Joe.

With Universal Products & Experiences, Skybound has seen strong sales with its Universal Monsters line, and it just launched the third volume of its Eisner-nominated Creepshow anthology, based on Greg Nicotero’s hit Shudder TV series produced and licensed by Cartel Entertainment.

Marsham is the fourth strategic executive hire since the spring for Skybound, and he joins recent hires Ben Abernathy as executive editor, Blake Kobashigawa as business development senior director, and Alex Hargett, brand and editorial director.

“It’s fantastic to be joining Skybound’s editorial team and coming on board to work on such a kaleidoscopic array of titles,” stated Marsham. “It’s great to be with a company with such an amazing history, a murderer’s row of a backlist, an award-winning juggernaut of a front list, and a burning desire to keep pushing comics storytelling forward.”
