“Mondays are hard enough,” I thought 15 seconds into the new music video for Harry Styles’s “Golden.” It was then I knew my productivity for the day would significantly decrease. “Golden” is the fifth single off the Fine Line album, following music videos for “Watermelon Sugar,” “Adore You,” “Lights Up,” and “Falling.” After factoring in a cloudy Monday and existential dread about the world, no one was expecting a frolicking Harry Styles to also impact their workload.
Alas, the singer emerges all tousled hair, gold cross necklace, and puffy shirt from Seinfeld—running toward me to ruin all hopes of meeting a deadline. In the video, Styles does a lot of jogging through the sunny tunnels and lush landscapes of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. He also swims, cruises in a convertible, and sports about seven accessories that live rent-free in my mind. Styles’s wardrobe also includes dainty necklaces, a turquoise blazer, crochet driving gloves, and a yellow rain hat that belongs in a museum.
As is customary for a new Styles video, #Golden became a top trend on Twitter shortly after its release. A few behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot have also emerged, offering fans a peek at looks that didn’t make the video. In the song, Styles sings, “Loving you is the antidote.” Many are still waiting on the remedy for this mind-fogging music video.
Ahead, the best reactions to “Golden” from others who won’t be completing their Mondays.
