MUNA’s Katie Gavin has played a stripped-back acoustic cover of Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ – check it out below.

The singer appeared on SiriusXM radio on Friday (November 29) to play the classic 1989 single, armed with just an acoustic guitar and microphone.

Check out official footage of Gavin’s intimate performance of the song here:

Gavin is promoting her debut solo album ‘What A Relief’, which was released on October 25 via Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records. The album included the single ‘Aftertaste’ and the Mitski collaboration ‘As Good As It Gets’.

“This record spans a lot of my life,” she added. ”It’s about having a really deep desire for connection, but also encountering all the obstacles that stood in my way to be able to achieve that, patterns of isolation or even boredom with the real work of love. ‘What A Relief’ explores and portrays it honestly, without shame.”

In September, MUNA played a similarly stripped back version of Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ while filling in for her at All Things Go. Roan had been due to play at the New York City/Washington DC twin festivals, but withdrew after what she described as an “overwhelming” few weeks.

MUNA had been supportive of Roan’s public comments about the “weird”, “creepy” and “predatory” behaviour of portions of her fanbase, going so far as to call out the “truly scary” behaviour of some of their own fans.

They went on to outline some of the issues they have encountered: “Cyberstalking, hackings, bullying other fans & our loved ones, plus spreading falsehoods about us and our loved ones for clout and attention online.”

Gavin’s debut album comes two years after MUNA’s latest release, 2022’s ‘MUNA‘. In a four-star review of the albumNME shared: “By now, it should be clear that this lot know how to pen a whopper of a pop anthem – that remains apparent here – but more crucially ‘MUNA’ also serves as solid evidence of a band with many more chapters of evolution up their sleeves yet.”
