Robbie Williams rang in the new year by headlining ABC’s New Year’s Eve party in Sydney, Australia. Check out the footage below.

The singer performed in front of the legendary Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge during the TV network’s countdown to midnight. Williams’ eight-song set was filled with career-spanning hits such as ‘Let Me Entertain You’, ‘Feel’, ‘Rock DJ’ and more. He also played a rendition of Chris Kenner’s ‘Land of 1000 Dances’ and Chris Thompson’s ‘You’re The Voice’.

For the final song of the night, Williams performed his 1997 ballad ‘Angels’. Once the song ended, the singer was joined on stage by the night’s hosts and together they counted down to the new year which was celebrated with the city’s legendary fireworks display.

Robbie Williams’ ABC’s New Year’s Eve party in Sydney, Australia setlist was:

‘Let Me Entertain You’
‘Land of 1000 Dances’ (Chris Kenner cover)
‘Me and My Monkey’
‘Feel’
‘Better Man’
‘Rock DJ’
‘You’re the Voice’ (Chris Thompson cover)
‘Angels’

Speaking about his New Year Eve performance in a press release, Williams shared: “I’ve always had a soft spot for Australia. Ever since I first arrived here on my solo tour in 2003, Australia accepts me for who I am and that’s the best feeling. So it was truly an honour to entertain the nation in front of the iconic Sydney Harbour counting down to New Year’s Eve.”

At the show, fans were given a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the singer’s new musical biopic Better Man.

Speaking to NME about the film, Williams reflected on seeing his life story depicted on film: “Tears. And triggering. And grief. And healing. And ego. And: ‘Look at what’s happened to me!’. It just depends on which version of me turns up for the screening on that particular day – and how much sleep I’ve had.

“At the minute, I just wanna take all of this in. I wanna drink every moment that I can, because I’m now in a place where I can derive joy from life. I couldn’t derive any joy from life for such a long time. And I feel as though I’m getting lucky again and I’m getting another bite of the apple.”

In a three-star review of the film, NME shared: “Better Man begins like a John Lewis ad and swerves into an R-rated hodgepodge that somehow does too much while also barely skimming the surface of Robbie Williams’ career. This is ‘Rudebox’ on film: some of it good, some of it very bad, all of it a bit of a mess. Still, the monkey musical is a big swing that no-one else would have taken. You can’t fault the chutzpah or the ambition. If it makes back its reported budget, we’ll eat $110m worth of bananas.”

In other news, Williams recently revealed that he wants to go back to school and re-sit his GCSEs.
