Hannah Harper was named the winner of American Idol Season 24 during the live finale on May 11. After Ryan Seacrest announced that she had secured the most votes to win the show, Hannah broke down in tears while singing her coronation song.
She was surrounded by runner-up Jordan McCullough and other finalists from the season a confetti rained down. Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie also came on stage to celebrate with the mom of three.
Shortly after the results were read, Hannah took to Instagram to share her initial thoughts on how things panned out. Along with her message, she posted a photo of herself holding up the envelope that announced she was the 2026 winner.
“What a wild, beautiful journey this has been. And somehow we’re just getting started,” Hannah wrote. “Thank you to every single person who believed in me, prayed over me, voted, and helped carry this dream farther than I ever could’ve imagined. Y’all changed my life.”

She continued, “I’m beyond thankful for the doors the Lord has opened and for the opportunity to walk this path. I’ll see y’all on the road soon… tour dates coming your way.”
After Hannah auditioned for the show with an original song called “String Cheese,” she went viral online and immediately started building a fanbase, which helped her get voted through all of the Lives Shows to the finale. For her final three performances, she sang Alicia Keys‘ “No One,” an original song dedicated to her hometown in Missouri, and a reprise of “String Cheese.”
Hannah’s husband, Devon Mendenhall, was there to support her on the big night, along with her parents. Her three sons were not in attendance at the actual show, but sent in a video message to cheer on their mom, which brought her to tears.
