Detroit-area rap artist Big Mig is preparing for the next stage of his developing career with Forbidden Eras, an album currently planned for 2027 that will explore his high school experiences, internal battles and evolution as a musician.
Before Max Jurcisin became Big Mig the rapper, music was already consuming much of his life.
During high school, he dedicated himself to DJing and creating mixes. Big Mig’s desire for perfection eventually contributed to significant stress and anxiety, along with periods of depression.
By his senior year, he realized he needed a change.
Big Mig eventually created one final DJ mix during his first semester of college and walked away from that chapter of his musical life. But music wasn’t finished with him.
After meeting fellow artists Meltdog, Manban and Sethman, along with becoming part of a creative circle that also included Brummy and Mefford, Big Mig began taking songwriting seriously.
The transition eventually resulted in his first album, A Family Reunion, while giving him an entirely different way to express himself.
That evolution is now leading toward Forbidden Eras.
Big Mig says the upcoming project will address the culture he experienced during high school and the negative voices that surrounded his earlier pursuit of music. Instead of hiding those experiences, he intends to use them as material.
The project fits Big Mig’s broader approach to creating music that feels personal without restricting himself to one style.
His records can move from hard-hitting music to melodic and introspective material, with versatility becoming an important part of the Big Mig identity.
His Detroit roots also remain present in his artistic development. Big Mig points to Eminem as one of his biggest inspirations while recognizing the influence of Detroit artists such as 42 Dugg, Tee Grizzley and BabyTron.
As he prepares for 2027, Big Mig’s goal isn’t simply to prove doubters wrong. He wants people who hear his story to question the limitations they may have placed on themselves. His philosophy remains:
“Impossible? Let’s find out.”
With Forbidden Eras, Big Mig is preparing to revisit the experiences that once challenged him while demonstrating why they don’t have to determine his future.
