Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill) has been kidnapped (again). The teen was taken in the Marshals Season 1 finale, but as of the final seconds, Tate and dad Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) had no idea they had been tricked. Based on where Tate’s captors said they were taking him, Yellowstone fans are wondering if a Dutton Ranch crossover is possible in Marshals Season 2.
The Marshals finale aired on Sunday, May 24, on CBS. The show had a villain per week with its procedural format, unlike its predecessor, which had a villain per season. But Marshals took a page out of Yellowstone‘s book by revealing its big bad guy for Season 2 in Sunday’s finale. Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) wants Kayce’s East Camp for himself now that Kayce has decided not to sell it. He asked nicely at first and accepted Kayce’s rejection kindly as well, but the finale plot twists revealed that he was behind the attack on Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel).
After the shootout at East Camp to protect Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), Tom offered to take Tate to Texas on a fishing trip to put some distance between Kayce’s son and the life of fire. But it was out of the frying pan and into the fire. Tom’s daughter, Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), kept an eye on Kayce back in Montana.
Marshals fans on Reddit think this is the perfect tee-up for Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) to appear in Marshals. Reilly recently said that she would be open to a crossover between the two Yellowstone spinoffs.
“I’m so proud of Luke, and we love him so much, and I miss him,” Reilly told People. “I wish we had a crossover. Maybe we will in the future.”
“I think this sets up the crossover between Marshals and Dutton Ranch,” one user commented. “Rip will save Tate in Texas!”
“Holy sh*t, this is a good call,” one fan replied.
Another viewer thinks Kayce will get his sister involved.
“[Kayce] will call Beth, or if knowing Tate, he will fight his way out and he [finds] them himself,” they commented.
Other fans are wondering why Kayce would trust his son, who was kidnapped as a younger child in Yellowstone, with a relative stranger across state lines.

“Who lets their kid go four states away with a stranger??? Tate should go with his grandfather on the rez,” one user said on the Reddit thread.
“Agreed. I was yelling at the TV, for Kayce to say no,” another viewer replied. “I know Kayce thinks he left the Yellowstone problems behind when he sold the Yellowstone, but that is not the case. Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call for Kayce that evil is all around and not just associated with the Yellowstone. And he needs to have a healthy suspicion of everyone till proven differently.”
This led to a discussion about the Weavers’ storyline being “unbelievable.”
“Weaver’s daughter and Kayce have so little chemistry and screen time together, just some small talk,” they wrote, “old man wanted to buy his ranch and took Tate fishing twice and all of a sudden he is going with them to Texas to fish… it’s not really believable…”
“Yeah the Weavers are secretly evil but that’s some damn dumb patterning from Kayce,” a reply reads. “‘Can I go on this old man’s plane?’ Tate just met him just a few weeks ago! Kayce should say ‘hell no.’”
“You know Rip and Beth would say no,” one reply read.
Marshall-Green told TV Insider that there will be immediate updates on Tom in Marshals Season 2 Episode 1, premiering this fall.
“I’ve only read the first script, and he will be right there in the top of Season 2,” Marshall-Green said. “He will be the big bad, and there’ll be a lot of consequences.”
“We pick up right where we left off, I mean literally and figuratively,” Marshall-Green added. “No rest for the wicked.”
