David Muir fans declared that he “deserves an Emmy” after pulling off a broadcasting feat that left Kelly Ripa “very concerned” and fans calling one segment “terrifying.”
On the evening of July 3, Disney Celebrates America kicked off a 24-hour broadcast marking the nation’s 250th birthday. Muir, 52, who helmed the ABC special, visited the Redwood National and State Parks in California, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and the Statue of Liberty’s torch in New York.
Afterward, Muir took to Instagram to share photos from his travels across the U.S.
“The office these last few weeks,” the ABC World News Tonight anchor captioned his update, “I’m so grateful to our small army of producers, photographers, editors, true artists — America the Beautiful for sure.”
In the comments, followers lauded Muir and his team for their work, with one Instagram user insisting, “David, you and the ABC team deserve an Emmy for this 24-hour event.”
A second agreed, writing, “Unbelievable show. And yes, you deserve an Emmy for this 24-hr show.”
Someone else echoed, “If I could nominate you to be a Disney legend, I absolutely would! Your reporting all over the world, and your anchoring of special events is outstanding!”
Another pointed out, “The series was absolutely amazing.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user commented, “Indeed, well done! Thanks to all for the excellent coverage of our beautiful country. What a gift.”
The calls for an Emmy nod came after fans expressed concern over a “terrifying” snapshot of Muir at the very top of the Statue of Liberty’s torch, ahead of Disney Celebrates America.
They also came after Ripa said she was “very concerned” for her friend over his hosting the 24-hour broadcast, while he made an appearance on Live With Kelly & Mark.
