What To Know
- Max Greenfield revealed that a ‘New Girl’ reunion is likely happening and that scripts have already been written.
- Previous teasing from cast members has fueled speculation about the reunion.
- While an official announcement has not been made, Greenfield’s comments have excited fans of the show.
When it comes to beloved TV comedies, it doesn’t get much better than Fox’s former hit New Girl, which saw Zooey Deschanel fit the titular role as Jessica Day, who found a home in a loft full of male roommates after a shocking breakup.
So, it’s no surprise that fans would be eager to see the series return in some shape or form, even if it’s just a reunion installment, and it seems like there is hope as Max Greenfield, who played Schmidt, shared an exciting update.
During an appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Greenfield was asked about a potential New Girl reunion, and said, “As far as I know, it’s happening. Liz Meriwether came out and said she was all nervous… Liz was very concerned… she was like, ‘I don’t know if there’s any more stories to tell.’”
“She’s full of it,” Greenfield said of the series creator, adding, “I’ve seen scripts. She’s written them. Yeah, they’re amazing. She’s a very talented writer.”
The reunion was previously teased by Greenfield’s former costars, including Jake Johnson, who played Nick Miller in the show. Earlier this year in an interview with Deadline, he told the outlet that everyone would be in it apart from costar Lamorne Morris, who played Winston. “Because he got an Emmy and he thinks they’re better than us. And I have direct quotes saying, ‘I’m too talented and too funny to be on a sitcom with you, hacks.’”
Of course, Johnson’s commentary was conveyed in a joking manner to the point that Meriwether took to Instagram to respond in her own joking way, fueling the reunion theories until Greenfield seemingly confirmed it. “The truth is, there’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. There’s been a lot of hurt feelings. There have been some pretty explicit text messages sent around of body parts… and not the ones you’d expect,” she began the video that was posted on July 17.
New Girl‘s reunion hasn’t officially been announced, but Greenfield’s update is sure to keep fans excited for the potential. New Girl ran for seven seasons on Fox, airing between 2011 and 2018. The series’ cast included Deschanel, Johnson, Greenfield, Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr.
