- Rob Lowe has offered an update on the ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ sequel.
- He told Kelly Clarkson a script is in the works.
- The original movie was released in 1985.
There was much excitement among those for whom 1985’s ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ holds a nostalgic grip on their hearts back in 2024 when Rob Lowe let it slip that work had begun on a sequel.
Things have been quiet since then, but Lowe is back to stoke the, er, fires via an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Lowe revealed that he and others were trying to get the script for the follow-up into good shape:
“I’m trying to get it done, but I’m excited. I think the reason that ‘St. Elmo’s’ continues to mean a lot to people is because it’s such a great snapshot of your 20s. Everyone wants to do it. We just need to get the script right, and that’s what we’re working on.”

The original Joel Schumacher film starred Lowe, Demi Moore, Andie MacDowell, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, Mare Winningham, Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez as a group of recent college graduates who struggle with adulthood as the venture into the world.
There was talk back in 2019 about a potential TV reboot set in the present day, but that hasn’t caught fire in the development world.
