Victoria Groce should be proud of herself because she had a great tournament. Yogesh Raut won Season 4 of Jeopardy! Masters. Groce didn’t mind, except for this one factor.
Groce, a writer and speaker from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, played against Raut, from Vancouver, Washington, and Andrew He, from San Francisco, California.
Despite being ahead in the first round of the first game, Groce fell behind, and the win went to Raut. He also won the last game, giving him a higher score and causing him to become the first two-time Jeopardy! Masters winner. Raut, a specialist in applied cognition, also won Season 3. Groce was Season 2’s winner. James Holzhauer took home Season 1’s win.
Groce came in second for Season 4, and she does not regret that. She shared her thoughts on Reddit and said she is only sad to lose because of this one thing — not getting money for her charity. The winner takes home $500,000, the Alex Trebek trophy, the title of winner, and $100,000 for their chosen charity.

Groce played for was playing for Partners in Health. PIH helps communities and local government deliver high-quality medical care and strengthen public health systems.
Here is what she said. “Various people asked me last year if I was disappointed in how the finals came out. I expect I’ll get some of the same questions this year. And the answer’s the same: beyond not securing the donation for PIH, of course not. How could I be? Every time I’ve been lucky enough to play Jeopardy! I’ve felt like Dante from Clerks (‘I’m not even supposed to be here today!’). It never would have occurred to me to invite me back in 2024 in the first place. I also recognize how many close calls have come between me getting the call to come onto the JIT and me standing on that stage for the game you saw tonight.”
“Anyone who talks about this stuff gets used to me saying, ‘keep your eyes on your own paper.’ I don’t believe in trying to control or worry about the things that are out of your hands. But so many factors (the opponents, the board, the wagering clues, how you’re feeling physically, whether you’re in rhythm with the buzzer) go into anyone winning any game of Jeopardy! ever. I know—I think contestants all know—that nothing’s ever guaranteed and nothing’s ever entitled to anyone here. And if that’s your mindset, you’ll never be disappointed. Only grateful for the opportunity to play.”
