- Warner Bros. Animation has a new ‘Dark Shadows’ series in the works.
- It’ll be an animated show aimed at adults.
- The original show ran on ABC in the 1960s and early 1970s.
If we say the title ‘Dark Shadows,’ chances are the direction in which your mind heads will depend on your age. Those old enough to remember the spooky TV series launched on ABC by Dan Curtis, which became a cult hit, will picture that.
Everyone else? Probably one of the various film adaptations, most famously the 2012 Tim Burton effort, which starred (no one look surprised!) Johnny Depp.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, plans are now afoot at Warner Bros. Animation for a new take on the concept, this time an animated series aimed at adults.

The original show saw newly hired governess Victoria Winters arriving at Collinwood, the Collins’ estate in Collinsport, Maine in search of her mysterious origins. She soon is caught up in the strange events and mysteries that seem to surround the Collins family.
Eventually, the Collins’ “cousin from England,” Barnabas Collins, arrives and takes the show in a new direction; his vampire curse introduces a new history of the Collins family.
What will the new ‘Dark Shadows’ animated show be about?
Here’s the logline for the new show, which has ‘A Discovery of Witches’ series writer Lisa Holdsworth aboard:
“Blending gothic, horror, and supernatural genres, this coming adaptation promises all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that defined the transformational series across its 1200-plus episode run.”
