August 19 marked the first live results show of the year on Season 21 of America’s Got Talent. After 11 acts performed on Night One of the Quarterfinals on August 18, viewers got to vote for their favorites, and the three contestants with the most votes are moving forward into the Semifinals.
Howie Mandel used his live Golden Buzzer on Hundred Fingers, which means the magic act automatically jumps past the Semifinals and into the Finals. Of the ten other Night One acts, three moved on, and seven were eliminated.
Before the results were read, host Terry Crews recapped the previous night’s performances, including Simon Cowell‘s disdained reaction to James & Marina’s performance and Mel B.‘s confusion over Sando’s dance routine. Cowell said he watched the show back when he got home and admitted he shouldn’t have given James & Marina the red buzzer. He also confirmed that he enjoyed CommUNITY ATL’s performance more when he watched on TV.
About halfway through the episode, the Top 5 were revealed. Crews called dog trainer Olivia Befus and mentalists James & Marina to the stage first. Olivia made it to the Top 5, while James & Marina were eliminated.
CommUNITY ATL and rapper Luke Taleno went head-to-head next, with Luke in the Top 5 and CommUNITY ATL eliminated. Between Royal Lasers and Ashford Sanders, the former moved on and Ashford was sent home. Singer Brook Lynn and comedian Cris Sosa learned their fates next. While Cris earned a spot in the Top 5, Brook Lynn was eliminated.
The final pairing was the Jesse White Tumbling Team and dancer Sando, with the former moving on and the latter eliminated.
However only three of the Top 5 could actually make the Semifinals. Olivia Befus, Luke Taleno, Royal Lasers, Cris Sosa, and the Jesse White Tumbling Team returned to the stage to find out who that would be.

The three acts that made the Semifinals and will be moving forward in the competition are: Olivia Befus, Royal Lasers, and Luke Taleno. With three weeks of Quarterfinal competition left, nine more acts will make the Semifinals, while three will get live Golden Buzzers and automatically make the Finals.

The acts who were eliminated are: James & Marina, CommUNITY ATL, Ashford Sanders, Brook Lynn, Sando, Jesse White Tumbling Team, and Cris Sosa.
