Still looking to distance himself from Oscar Slapgate (the success of ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ certainly helped), Will Smith has now signed on to a new, original action project. Deadline brings word that he’ll take the lead in ‘Supermax’ which has David Gordon Green (‘Halloween’) in the director’s chair.
The new movie, which is set in the titular prison, is a project that might have ended up seeing its distribution rights for sale at the Cannes Film Market, but Amazon MGM Studios has swooped in to buy it before that can happen.

David Weil and David J. Rosen, who both worked on Prime Video TV series ‘Hunters’, teamed back up to write the script, which follows two FBI agents who must investigate a murder that has taken place in the world’s most secure prison.
Green is currently looking for someone to play Smith’s character’s female FBI partner, and is scheduled to start the cameras rolling in August.
What else does Will Smith have in development?
The star has been working more as a producer and on the small screen of late, but he has a few projects in the works, including potential sequels to both ‘I Am Legend’ and ‘Hancock’.
