It’s hard to overstate the contributions DMX, who died in 2021 at 50, made to New York hip-hop history during his lifetime. This week, the city recognized that impact by naming the corner of School Street and Brooke Street in Yonkers, where the MC was born and raised, “Earl DMX Simmons Way.”

Per the Yonkers Times, the Yonkers City Council voted without objection to move forward with the proposal on May 27, after a public hearing garnered support from members of the local community. Earl DMX Simmons Way will be located near the Calcagno Homes, the public housing complex where DMX grew up. It’s also situated near a large mural honoring the rapper, which New York artist Floyd Simmons painted in 2021.

The new street name is not the only memorial nod to DMX coming this year. Back in January, 50 Cent announced that he is launching a new podcast on the rapper’s life and legacy, Look Thru My Eyes: Becoming DMX. The series will be hosted by Jadakiss; an official release date has yet to be announced.
