Duffy, the Welsh singer behind the 2008 smash “Mercy,” will make a surprise return to the stage next month for the first time in nearly 15 years. She revealed on Friday (June 5) via Instagram Stories that she’ll play a “secret intimate gig” in London on July 5—a venue has yet to be announced.

The show is the latest step in Duffy’s return to the public eye after stepping away for over a decade in the wake of a traumatic attack. In a pair of statements published in 2020, Duffy shared that she had been abducted, raped, and held captive for six weeks, an ordeal that led her to retreat from the spotlight. In March, she announced that she’ll recount her story for the first time in a Hulu Original documentary for Disney+. Per a press release, the film will include extensive interviews with Duffy, as well as archival footage and conversations with her family, friends, and colleagues in the industry. The project has yet to receive a title or air date.

Duffy shared her latest new music, the songs “River in the Sky” and “Something Beautiful,” shortly after sharing the statements on her harrowing experience in 2020. Her most recent proper album, Endless, arrived in 2010 two years after her hit debut, 2008’s Rockferry.
