Little House on the Prairie fans went wild as original cast member Alison Arngrim — who played mean girl Nellie Oleson — made a surprise cameo in the reboot series.
On July 9, all eight episodes of the reimagined LHOTP dropped on Netflix. The show features an all-new cast that offers a take that more closely resembles the stories inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s books.
That night, Arngrim, 64, took to Instagram with screenshots of her unexpected appearance in the reboot. “Bwahaha! I had SOOOOO much fun doing this!” she captioned her update. “So happy people are enjoying my cameo on the new Little House!”
In the featured image, Arngrim chose a close-up of her in character with fake, rotting teeth, a dirty face, and no makeup. She included several other stills from the show, finishing up the carousel with a few behind-the-scenes looks.
Fans flooded Arngrim’s comments with excited comments detailing their reactions to her surprise cameo. One Instagram user confessed, “I didn’t realize that was you!!”
A second echoed, “Oh my god, is it really you, Alison? You are hardly recognizable!!” as a third exclaimed, “I haven’t watched yet OMG CAN’T WAIT!!”
Another shared, “I’m glad you’re there. It’s not Little House without you!”
“It was such a special moment to see you appear on the screen,” someone else wrote.

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user wrote, “I knew it was you right away!!!! Good to see a little Nellie on the reboot!! You were great as usual. I was screaming at my screen last night like a crazy gal. ‘OMG that’s HER!! That’s Nelly, our Nelly.’ My son looked at me and made me feel indeed like a crazy person.”
Aside from Arngrim, the LHOTP reboot stars Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, Warren Christie as Mr. John Edwards, among others. The original series aired for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983.
